Today we are very pleased to announce the launch of Sawy in our first blog post. Sawy was created with a vision to have a positive impact on the lives of millions of next generation Data professionals. You can read more about our journey in the about section. We strive to fix a problem in technical education which involves making technology available and work for everyone.

Several years later, and the 2.7 year pilot teaching in a university in Gurugram has shown the efficacy and effectiveness of the course hence devised.

Many other accolades show that the course content is ranked one of the finest in India and the pilot university ranking in Data Science from nowhere to the Top 5 in India proves the course’s prowess.

The cherry on the top is, the course is created for 13 years old and above. PhD’s and scholars who have taken this course have given awesome testimonials that the teaching method is one of the best.

When this curriculum was being designed, I used to wonder who all will take this course, not a single industry or profession came to my mind which won’t benefit or is impacted by the field of Data Science currently. And the way we are adapting technology, Data Scientists would be most sought by any industry.

I have observed that Data Science is just another profession which is new and taking over the world by storm. People who jump in now will be the ones who will have more experience and most sought after. Most CEO’s till this date comes from sales background and we presume that the next generation of CEO’s would come from Data Science background.

One cannot seriously hope to become a professional by taking any 6 months course. You cannot become a doctor, lawyer, civil engineer, cook, pilot or musician by doing a 6 month course. In 6 months one can get basic knowledge and unable to be classified as an expert.

Whereas, Sawy course is pretty unique. One can do several certificate courses to attain Knowledge Level 1 and get a job, work simultaneously for the other 3 Levels while increasing two major things - increase in knowledge and experience, increase in salary due to knowledge and experience. The investment is for the 1st year only.

Sawy course is created with simple and easily understandable attributes for a common student. Our Government is asking to teach data literacy to school children, the industry is unable to find Data Scientists, and there is no sufficient talent pool of Data scientists for the above job; how and from where will the schools get talent to teach?

It’s like sitting on a rocking chair - it creates motion but takes you nowhere. We have so many IITs, the world’s largest IT force. So many degrees and educated people. But China files 76 times more patents than us in AI.

At Sawy we are focusing on making data literacy part of every student’s life, be they architects, chefs, businessmen, doctors, engineers etc. This is different from just trying to teach it to smart people or one segment of the society. In other words, we are trying to democratize data literacy. Take it to every school child in their native language.
